Hi, our names are Chris and Gerry Atkinson, we live on site in the farmhouse. Let us tell you about The Barnhouse:-

We are situated in the interesting, and ever popular, Loire Valley, close to the historic chateau town of Saumur. Les Taudonnieres is a small, quiet hamlet and the gîte garden, at the rear of our property, overlooks the fields.

The Barnhouse nestles within our huge barn and we have restored and modernized it to provide  comfortable holiday accommodation, perfect for a couple or young family who want to spend a relaxing, peaceful holiday in a tranquil rural hamlet,

The living accommodation is all on the ground floor, part open plan, and has a bright, light, modern, but cosy feel.  The gîte is suitable for people with mobility problems but there is a step into the shower room/wc

We are minutes away from the charming village of Parcay les Pins where you can buy your le pain, drink with the locals or visit the Musée Jules Desbois, which traces the career of this accomplished sculptor.

In the open plan section of the gîte there is a Bedroom furnished with a classic French bedroom suite consisting of a double bed, side cabinet and a wardrobe with mirror. There is also a fitted wardrobe with ample space for your clothes.  In this room we have fitted an English plug for using your own appliances or charging mobile phones. People with mobility problems have found this room perfect as a wheelchair can easily be manoeuvred into the area.

The SHOWER ROOM AND WC have been tastefully finished to a very high standard.

There is a step up into this area making it impossible for wheelchair access.

At the front of the Barnhouse is a patio area with table and chairs, perfect for enjoying that glass of wine whilst dinner is cooking.

In the GARDEN at the rear of the property, there is a private sitting area for our guests to enjoy under a shady pergola. There is a table and chairs  positioned for you to enjoy your meals looking  out over the fields – sometimes we have sunflowers in the fields surrounding this area. For your relaxation there are 2 sun-loungers in this quiet, sunny spot.

Here is our vegetable garden and young fruit section (which we hope will start producing fruit soon).

Some guests, rising very early in a morning, have spotted deer making their way across the fields to the woods close by (see photos).

ATTRACTIONS IN THE LOIRE

The whole region is very flat, popular for lovely walks and safe quiet cycling. The Loire Valley is renowned for its abundance of beautiful and interesting Chateaux and the famous cities of Saumur, Angers, Tours and Le Mans are within an hours drive. FuturoScope at Poitiers and the Coast is achievable  in a day but possibly a long drive. Alternatively, you can cool off in one of the many lakes in the area, play golf, visit a market, or just relax and enjoy a glass of wine and watch the world go by.

The area produces some of the finest wines in France and you can visit the caves (wine producers) where you can taste before buying. Whatever your culinary preferences you can eat at some excellent restaurants in the locality, from the lunchtime cheapies (highly recommended), to top class nouvelle cuisine. There are also Chinese and Indian restaurants in the Saumur.

Tourist Information offices keep up-to-date leaflets describing attractions in the area, Also in our local villages, there are, throughout the year, many traditional events that are of interest to visitors and we will be happy to keep you informed of these activities.
